April 1st is coming, and there’s nothing you can do about it. Last year, I celebrated the occasion by beginning a now-classic 3-part Unified Theory of the Funny:

  1. abstract and narrative humor

  2. the comforts of cruelty

  3. against the quip

This time round I have a very unwordy post, as I had a enormous amount of work and life to deal with (more on that later). Still, I managed to carry on with Foghorn and improvised cartoons.

The more eagle-eyed (or just plain obsessive) reader might’ve noticed that I changed her pant texture from a checkered brush of my own making, to a hand-drawn checker pattern. It is curious how this seemed to work just fine in my previous, slightly collagey book, but here the pattern just kept bothering me.

I think it’s because the overall drawing style is more sketchy and loose, even though I started it thinking everything will be tight and simple a-la Anouk Ricard. Shows how little control I have over my work, even with more than a year of preparation and sketching.
